So, you wanna make a website?
I like to write classy website code. Other people like to design classy looking websites. I assume that this describes you. Together, we make a great team. High five.
OK, that’s enough celebrating, we’ve got work to do.
I provide a simple, cost effective method of turning your high concept, beautifully illustrated, pixel perfect site design into something that folks armed with nothing but web browsers can access and enjoy.
I’ll make sure that I tell you upfront what’s going to work and (more importantly) what’s not, and of course, how much the whole operation is likely to cost.
Here are some of the things I could do with your design:
- Make a simple website
Something you can upload immediately, but with enough flexibility that it can be easily updated in the future - Create a custom WordPress template
Give a personal face to the world’s best blogging and content management system - Integrate cool stuff
Seen something cool on a website (like a flashy photo gallery effect etc.)? It might be simple to integrate it into your website. Then you’ll be cool too. - Import and format your content
Got text and images ready to go? I can format and insert it while you relax by the pool.
This is not an exhaustive list. I’m not into exhaustion. Any questions, contact me.
“But,” I hear you say, “I’ve got a friend who knows HTML/Dreamweaver/FrontPage (shudder) and they’ll do it for a sixpack and a hug”
Good. There are a lot of people who know basic HTML (website code). However, there are a few considerations, such as:
- Cross-browser compatibility
Not everyone has the same operating system or web browser. It doesn’t make sense to have a website that only looks good to a fraction of your target market. - Search engine friendliness
People aren’t the only things looking at your website. You want people to find your website through a search engine, so you need search engines to find you. - Cleanliness and optimisation
Lots of extraneous code or incorrectly compressed images makes your website take longer to load, which means that your average internet user is going to get bored and go outside instead of perusing your awesome content. - Standards compliance
Conforming to accepted standards has plenty of advantages. Sticking to web standards helps achieve all the things mentioned above, and means that your website makes sense to lots of different things (including screen readers, text based browsers, and other assistive devices). It also scores you 5 nerd points. With nerds.
If your friend offers all these things, then you’re a lucky person. Treasure that friendship. Otherwise, I’m here for you too.
